Haiwei Laser Boosts Talent Cultivation at Northwestern Polytechnical University and Establishes a Laser Welding Practical Workshop in Collaboration

On the afternoon of September 25, 2021, the laser welding workshop jointly established by Northwestern Polytechnical University (hereinafter referred to as "NWPU") and Shenzhen Havi Laser Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Havi Laser") was officially completed in the Heat Processing Teaching Department of the Engineering Practice Training Center of NWPU.

In recent years, laser welding has witnessed rapid development and is regarded as "the next explosive point of laser technology after its application in cutting". Against the backdrop of "Made in China 2025", the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries have led to an increasing demand for advanced laser processing. Among them, laser welding technology is widely applied in various fields such as automobiles, aerospace, ships, electronics industry, and biomedicine, and has become an important part of advanced manufacturing.

Northwestern Polytechnical University, established in 1938, is the only national key university in China that simultaneously develops aviation, marine and aerospace industries. After a two-year process, by evaluating factors such as the strength of the enterprise, the performance of laser welding equipment (welding tooling fixtures, gas protection devices, and welding sample specimens, etc.), scientific and technological innovation, and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, Northwestern Polytechnical University, after careful consideration among numerous high-tech enterprises, finally decided to jointly establish a laser welding workshop with Havi Laser.

The development direction and thinking of Haiwei Laser are in line with the key points of talent cultivation at Xianggang University. This has laid a solid foundation for the close and in-depth strategic cooperation between the two parties. While Xianggang University is doing a good job in talent cultivation and output, it also looks forward to more cooperation with Havi Laser in various other aspects.

With the official commissioning of the laser welding workshop, Northwestern Polytechnical University and Havi Laser will further expand the depth and breadth of their cooperation in areas such as talent cultivation, scientific research, and technology transfer, achieving mutual benefit and win-win results.

 
It is known that the Engineering Practice Training Center of Northwestern Polytechnical University was formed through the merger and integration of the former School Mechanical and Electrical Factory established in 1957 and the former School Electronic Instrument Factory established in the 1960s in 2000. It is the largest comprehensive practical teaching base of Northwestern Polytechnical University, and also a provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration center, a regular member of the National Maker Education Base Alliance, and the Chairman unit of the Northwest Region University Engineering Training Research Association.

The thermal processing teaching department where the laser welding workshop is located serves as an important part of the metalworking practical training. It undertakes the thermal processing practical training tasks for undergraduate students of Northwestern Polytechnical University, with approximately 1,200 students receiving training each year. The equipment in this department can meet the requirements for the thermal processing of conventional metal materials as well as the subsequent performance inspection.
